A SPECTATORS GUIDE TO AMATEUR BOXING

  • DECISIONS

  • There cannot be a draw.

If points are equal the judge will decide on:

    Who led off most

    Better style

    Better defense

    Note:

Leading off is striking or attempting to strike first.

      Outclassed:
If in the opinion of the referee a boxer is outclassed or receiving excessive punishment the bout will be stopped.
      Injury:
If in the opinion of the referee a boxer is unfit to continue because of injury the bout will be stopped.
      WIN BY DISQUALIFICATION:
One or both boxers can be disqualified. The referee has the power to caution, warn or disqualify a boxer at any time without previous warning.
      Note: WARNINGS
      - A referee will indicate to each judge when he warns a boxer (commonly known as a public warning).
A boxer who receives three warnings in a contest for any reason shall be disqualified for receiving three warnings.
      WIN BY KNOCK-OUT:
An amateur is rarely actually knocked out unconscious.
KO is an international term for a boxer who fails to beat the count of 10.
A boxer can be counted out if following a punch:
Any part of his body other than his feet touch the deck.
He is hanging helplessly on the ropes, is part through the ropes or out of the ropes.
He is in a dazed condition and is not able to defend himself (standing count).
To beat the count a boxer must in the opinion of the referee, be in a position to defend himself at the count of 8.
      NOTE:
An amateur boxer who receives three counts in one round or four in a contest will lose the contest by RSC.
